Hello! My name is Misty and though pen and paper are not my instruments, I consider myself a storyteller. As a documentarian, my speciality is turning authentic candid moments into evocative imagery. My style of photography documents the family dynamic in a way that is honest and unscripted. Using the same approach at weddings, I unobtrusively document the tears and laughter without influencing the events happening around me. The honest images of these split-second moments empower my clients with the ultimate way to recall the magic of these moments forever. For editorial clients, I rely again on my photojournalism background to cover sports, theater performances, trade shows, dinner parties, awards ceremonies and other corporate events, while also capturing portraits of key speakers, awardees, trustees, and others.
Photography has been my occupation since 2008, though my experience extends far beyond that. Before making a career of photography, my skills as a photo editor were carefully refined and perfected by 6 years spent as an Express Photo Lab Manager, developing film and artfully making prints for my customers, while managing day to day operations. After that, I worked for a couple of years as a Graphics Production Specialist before I left the 9-5 lifestyle. I also exercised my my proficiency as a photojournalist as a top freelancer at the News Journal for a few years.
Currently, I have the privilege of teaching college photography courses at Cecil College in Elkton & North East, MD, where I’ve taught for the past 11 years, at the very same college where I learned the careful art of digital imaging from professors were (and still are) experts in their fields. While I very much enjoy teaching, I will never stop being a student myself. Addicted to learning, I draw inspiration from everything in life - music, movies, books, art, advertisements, my children. I am often seeking ways to expand my horizons so my creativity never tires.
As much as I have enjoyed the many titles that go along with my 20+ years experience, there is one title that I cherish above the rest - MOM. In 2014, I gave birth to the most amazing, intelligent and creative little girl, who consistently inspires me with her innocence and intuition. Then, in 2018, we completed our family with the most energetic and exciting little boy who has an incredible love for cars. My children are the true loves of my life and my main muses. Every day I feel thankful and truly blessed for my career as a visual artist, a life of flexibility that fuels my creative spirit, using my skills to contribute to our family but also allowing me to spent plenty of time at home with my kids so I don’t miss a single milestone. For this reason, I only accept a limited number of photographic assignments, so that I can find balance between life and work.
